Why clinicians ignore clinical decision support systems: How to fix it?

In this article, Dr. Ami Mayo, Chairman of medCPU’s medical department, discusses the new era of clinical decision support (CDS) – one which can be better relied on to provide important alerts at the point of care. As 50 to 70 percent of data in healthcare resides in free text, clinicians are in need of advanced technologies that can read this text and help to make more informed decisions at the patient’s bedside. Accurate, complete data and data comprehension, in addition to a complete clinical patient picture, is key for clinicians when working with EMRs and CDS systems. Dr. Mayo concludes by stating CDS systems can and must become a useful healthcare tool, as these systems can heighten care quality and improve outcomes.
